Yazoo’s (Yaz in U.S. because of copyright issue) first album, Upstairs At Eric’s, is SynthPop gold. Before there was an Adel, there was Alison Moyet. Alison’s powerful voice drives the lyrics home with Vince Clarke’s (from Depeche Mode and later Erasure) layered and melodic synthesizer work. The Duo was all that was needed to create a full band sound. The highlights from the album were “Only You”, “Don’t Go”, “Bring Your Love Down” and “Situation”, but a favorite for me is the dark and moody “Winter Kills”.

(Yes, the Classic Rock/Hard Rock Guy likes 80's SynthPop)
