“Red Moon” by The Walkmen played everyday at this bookstore I used to work at, and it has been one of my favorites ever since. It’s an acoustic alternative track from the late 2000s, but it has this beautiful, melancholy horn section that makes it sound completely timeless. The Walkmen were known for this kind of sound; some of their songs even featured an organ! I can’t think of someone to compare lead singer Hamilton Leithauser’s voice to, which is usually a good thing in my book, but he has a really classic sound that fits into the song like he himself is one of the horns. The result is really a wistful escape.
